Uroflow Test Information

Reason for test:

Your urologist wishes to objectively determine how you are urinating. You will be asked to come to the office and void into a toilet that measures the urine flow/speed. It is a way that we can evaluate your urinary patterns to determine which treatment, if any, should be considered. Thus, it is important to try to come to the appointment with a full bladder. Please drink at least 32 ounces of water  before the appointment. Please do not urinate prior to your procedure. If you need to go sooner than your scheduled appointment time, please tell the front office person and we will try to get you in as soon as you arrive.

Often, we will then perform a bladder scan residual urine determination to see how much urine you are leaving behind. This is a small ultrasound probe which is placed on your lower abdomen. We simply push a button and in a few seconds, it tells us how much urine remains in the bladder. This is another important piece of information to help diagnose if there is a problem. It does not hurt!

If you have any questions before that, please call the office for further information/instructions.
